Why Online Therapy In Minnesota Can Work For You

Before the pandemic, we were already becoming familiar with online options to connect but after the pandemic hit, we had no choice. The clients with whom I work have been pleasantly surprised by how convenient and effective online counseling is. At first many people assumed there would be less of a connection and less quality in care but this proved to be untrue. The truth is, cancellations and no shows reduced greatly and people were able to prioritize themselves in a more efficient way.

What are some pros to using virtual therapy?

Online counseling saves precious time.

So many clients express how much time they are saving by not having to drive into an office.  If you are living in a rural area, it can be a burden to have to take hours out of your day to drive to a therapy appointment. If you have reliable internet access, online counseling can be an efficient way to engage in therapy. It can be such a relief to know you don’t have to take a half day or full day off of work just to have one appointment. For those living further away, there is less worry about finding the right fit as they are able to expand their options and see who they want to see. There is much more variety to choose from in the state of Minnesota when looking at online options versus having to look within driving distance.

Online therapy is convenient.

Because you can do online therapy from the comfort of your own home or on your lunch break at work in your own office, you have many more options when you fit therapy into your already busy day. Virtual therapy can take place on your computer, phone or on your iPad.

Online therapy is comfortable.

It feels less intimidating logging into your email, opening the link and sitting in the comfort of your own home. It is much easier to talk about yourself when you are in a familiar environment and have access to what you need.

What are some cons to virtual therapy?

Some insurance companies do not cover online therapy, however, I do not accept insurance and only take private pay. There are times when technical difficulties do occur but these are rare if there is decent internet connection. Another con to online therapy can be if there is a crisis or if someone is needing a higher level of support. In those cases, a referral to a more appropriate level of support would be discussed.
